European cars

Pre-purchase inspections for European cars

We specialize in European cars. Nearly a third of the cars we inspect are European: more than 1,000 since 2020, including more than 100 Porsches and more than 50 exotics from Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Maserati.

The scan

Why European cars need a different look

European cars carry more electronics, more control modules and more make-specific systems than most cars on the road, and each make has its own well-known trouble spots. A basic code reader sees mostly the engine.

We use diagnostic tools built for European cars, and they talk to the car's modules, not just the engine. Our dealer-level diagnostic scan reads most European makes, not all of them, and how deep it goes varies by make and year. On the cars it reads, it goes past the engine into modules like the transmission, the engine mounts, the telematics and the convertible top. You will see all of that in the examples below.

Diagnostic scan depth varies by manufacturer. Some vehicles, including Lucid and Rivian, restrict full-system and high-voltage access to the manufacturer's own service tools. Not sure about yours? Ask us before you book. Vehicles from 1995 and earlier, including most classics, predate the standard diagnostic port, so the scan may not run at all; on those cars the engine is checked mechanically instead.

Our team

Who leads our European work

Car Pro Inspections is a team of certified mechanics, led by factory-trained senior technicians. Our European work is led by Stephon, who owns Car Pro Inspections, and Alex, who has 16 years on European vehicles and trucks. Between them they know the problems each European make is known for, and our technicians look for those problems on the car you are buying.

One of our certified technicians inspects every car, and we schedule by region.

From our reports

What we have found on European cars

Every example below is from a report we sent to a buyer. We name the car only, never the buyer, the seller or where it was.

  • Aston Martin V8 Vantage (SportShift). We connected our scan tool to the transmission module and read the clutch data, then compared it with the reading the module stored when it first learned the clutch. The report told the buyer the clutch was past new and short of the replacement range, before they paid for the car.
  • 2021 Porsche 911 Cabriolet. Our paint meter read 28.5 mils on one panel against an average of 5 mils on every other panel: body filler. The scan also found three stored convertible-top faults: the roof latch, the wind deflector motor and the roof lock motor.
  • 2019 Porsche 911 Cabriolet. A hole of one to two inches in the convertible top just behind the rear glass, rear tires at 2/32 and 3/32 of an inch, a bulge in a front tire's sidewall, and a 12-volt battery due for replacement. The PDK transmission and 28 of the 29 systems we scanned came back clean.
  • 2007 Porsche Boxster. The buyer asked us to check the rear main seal and the IMS bearing flange at the bell housing. Access on this Boxster is limited, and the report said so. We found no drips, no residue and no wet surfaces in that area, and because a look under the car is not a teardown, we recommended a Porsche specialist look again with the underbody panels removed.
  • 2019 Range Rover. We traced a leaking pump to the Active Cornering Enhancement pump, not the power steering pump.
  • 2017 Audi S6. The scan confirmed a failed active engine mount, and we found a cracked hydraulic control-arm bushing.
  • 2019 Volvo XC90. We traced a "Volvo On Call" warning through the scan to a stored fault and Volvo's own technical guidance: the telematics backup battery had reached the end of its service life.
In their words

What buyers say

"He was well versed on the Porsche Taycan. ... He caught that the tires were so bald it was unsafe to drive."
Tiana L., Google review
"Although the car reportedly had a clean car fax, his inspection revealed there was an accident, repairs to the front end and both airbags had been deployed and replaced."
Brian F., Google review, 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet
Areas of Concern

Know what you are worried about? Name it.

Most European models have a problem their owners talk about. Tell us yours when you book. On Enhanced (up to 3 Areas of Concern) and Elite (up to 6), each one is its own question with its own written answer in your report, like the Boxster above, where the buyer named the seals and the report answered them directly. On Essential, your inspector still reads what you list, but each one does not get its own closer look and written answer.

Which tier

Which inspection for a European car

For a European car we recommend Enhanced at least. It adds what matters most on these cars: each scan code explained, Accident Investigation, the Panel-by-Panel Repaint & Body Filler Check, and Repair Cost Range Guidance.

Exotics, fully electric cars like the Porsche Taycan, and performance and classic cars are inspected on Enhanced or Elite. For an exotic we recommend Elite.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers before you book.

Will a Porsche-experienced technician inspect my car?

One of our certified technicians inspects every car, and we schedule by region, so we cannot promise a particular technician on every job. If it matters to you, call 833-644-0800 before you book and we will tell you who is available for your date.

Can your scan tool read my car?

Most European makes, not all. How deep the scan goes varies by make and year, and some makers keep full access to their own service tools. Cars from 1995 and earlier may not scan at all; on those the engine is checked mechanically. Not sure about yours? Ask us before you book.

Do you inspect exotics?

Yes. We have inspected Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Maserati. Exotics are inspected on Enhanced or Elite, and we recommend Elite.

Can you check a problem my model is known for?

On Enhanced and Elite, yes. Name it as an Area of Concern when you book, up to 3 on Enhanced and up to 6 on Elite, and your report answers each one in writing. On Essential, your inspector still reads what you list, but each one does not get its own closer look and written answer.

Where do you inspect?

Across the Atlanta and Orlando areas and throughout Georgia and Florida. A travel fee may apply depending on where the vehicle is, and we confirm it with you before the inspection.
